Award Application Process
Who can apply?
The purpose of this award is to recognize the role of nurses as it relates to patient safety. Therefore, applications are limited to registered nurses who are licensed and practice nursing in a hospital located in the United States. Applicants must have been an active participant in the project submitted.
Application Process
Applicants may submit one or more applications in a single award category or for multiple award categories. For each submission, applicants should adhere to the following guidelines:
- Complete the application form. Please note that this abstract should include no identifying information of the organization or persons involved.
- Submit an abstract describing your patient safety project. The abstract must be submitted electronically in a single Word document, not exceeding one page in length.
Your abstract should include the following sections:
Abstract Title
Introduction
State the rationale and purpose of the patient safety project.
Methods
Describe how the project was implemented.
Results
Review the outcome(s) of the project.
Discussion
Discuss how your project made an impact on patient safety.
- An entry fee of $500 per project is required at the time of submission.
- Applicants will receive 2 tickets to the Education Conference and Awards Program and will have the opportunity to earn a maximum of 6 contact hours. Additional tickets may be purchased here.

Abstract Publication
All abstracts will be published in a compendium of Best Practices for Nursing Patient Safety. Winners will receive a free copy of the compendium.
Confirmation of Receipt
An invoice and confirmatory message will be e-mailed to your organization upon receipt of your application.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality should be maintained in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. Please remove all identifying hospital, employee or patient information in your abstract.
